As the furthest North mainland community in Canada, Tuk is pretty remote. The all seasons road will be open later this year, but until then there was the ice road in the winter, the planes year round (weather permitting) and barges in the summer. Because it's so remote and small, you wouldn't expect...

It's a whirlwind up here. And that's just describing the weather!

My time in Tuk is down to it's last week. Friday was high school grad, Monday was kindergarten grad.

Sunday I had the opportunity to go to a whale harvest! A 15+ foot Beluga whale had been caught in the harbour and was being harvested!...

When people come to Tuk in the summer, there is a photo they all take: the quintessential, dipping your toe in the Arctic Ocean picture. Except they're usually still wearing winter clothes.

Not me, I'm the big tough Viking. (Though Icelanders thought I was crazy and under dressed when I was there......

Part of travelling is eating the local cuisine. Maybe things you've never even heard of or thought you would/could ever eat.

Since I've come up to Tuk, I have had the following things I'd never eaten before (I'd had Caribou before):

Reindeer is tasty, similar to Caribou, it's a very moi...

Sorry I've been so MIA. I did this great hike around Tuk and up to the DEW line and then proceeded to get a flu bug and spend the next week in bed. Or trying to go to school, fainting and having to come back home. You'd think this would mean ample time to write, but you'd be wrong. It was ample time...

Hello! So I arrived back in Tuk on Friday after a 3 day journey (Edmonton-Whitehorse. Whitehorse-Inuvik. Inuvik-Tuk) to wonderful food and my nice warm bed.

The ice road has officially closed down today, so from now on, all our groceries and everything will be coming via plane. Prices will be going...

Ooh boy has it been a wild ride….

I’m trying to find a way to write about the last two months in a positive uplifting way without oversharing. There has certainly been wonderful positives. I will dwell on those while skating over the rest.

 (On the Ice Road)

So after I left Inuvik, I spent the next 6 w...

Yesterday I was just hanging out, maxing, relaxing all cool, watching the new Evil Dead with Mike and Aman and getting ready to blow their minds with Cabin in the Woods as a double feature when our lovely friend and photographer Jana called. Did we know that there was a Sun Dog outside right now?

March 14, 2017

The road has been closed for a week now. The blizzards have been wild. The winds got up to 90km/hr in Tuk. Today (Monday) I was finally able to get a temp burner phone until my real smart phone arrives in the mail. So I’m now the homeless teacher with the super rad flip phone. I gotta bling it out....

March 11, 2017

So yesterday was amazing. We left the initial cabins and half of us went dog sledding and half snowmobiling on little Bravos.

I started with dog sledding, I wanted to be more awake and alert and less sore for that. We dogsledded across the lakes and through the forests. It was amazing. The dogs were...
